About the Tariff

The Tariff of Attorneys’ Fees and Expenses governs the calculation of attorneys’ fees and expenses. It is adopted by the Bar Association of Serbia. We discuss the specific work and costs before the engagement. This overview is not a fixed-price offer for your matter.

How to use the overview

Find the relevant group and tariff number for your matter. The calculation basis depends on the type of proceedings; the value of the matter is relevant where it has an ascertainable monetary value, while in criminal proceedings the potential penalty matters. Some rules refer to another tariff number or provide an additional charge for each hour or part of an hour. A single amount therefore does not represent the total cost of a matter.

Source and verification

This is an unofficial translation. The official Serbian Tariff and the decision amending the point value are available through the bar associations. In the event of a discrepancy, the official Serbian text prevails. The version and date of the most recent source check appear alongside the data.

Questions about the Tariff

Short answers to questions people ask before the first consultation.

Didn’t find an answer?Ask us directly

Is the first consultation charged?

Yes. Consultations are charged under the Tariff of Attorneys’ Fees and Expenses and paid for at the meeting. We clarify the amount and payment method at the start of the meeting, before giving legal advice. This also applies to video calls.

How is the value in dispute determined?

For a monetary claim, it is the amount you claim; for another claim with an ascertainable monetary value, it is the value of the matter in dispute. Procedural rules determine how that value is established. The Tariff has separate rules for matters without an ascertainable monetary value, in which the fee depends on the type of proceedings, regardless of the value you state. The attorney explains which tariff number applies to your claim.

Does the displayed amount cover the entire proceedings?

No. The Tariff sets fees for individual actions. The total calculation depends on the steps taken and applicable rules. Court fees, expert examinations and other procedural expenses are charged separately.

Is value added tax added?

Yes, if the attorney is liable for that tax. Under Article 13 of the Tariff, an attorney liable for value added tax may add and charge the applicable tax on calculated fees and expenses.

Can I obtain a written calculation?

Yes. Article 12 of the Tariff requires the attorney, at the party’s request, to prepare a written calculation of fees and expenses for work performed, showing how the Tariff applies.

Does recovery of costs from the other party replace payment to the attorney?

No. The award and recovery of procedural costs from the opposing party are separate from the calculation and payment of fees and expenses between you and the attorney.

Do I pay when booking through the website?

You do not pay through the website. On the website you only book the appointment, and you pay for the consultation at the meeting, under the Tariff.
