How we approach the matter
In the consultation we look at your family circumstances, the questions you want to resolve and the documents you have. We explain the options for reaching an agreement and for court proceedings, with the best interests of the child in mind where children are concerned. Whether we can take on the particular matter is established after the first contact and a conflict-of-interest check. The scope of the engagement and the next steps are agreed once we have reviewed your situation.
What to prepare
- Summonses, decisions and any existing agreements, if you have them.
- Documents on income, expenses or the property the question concerns.
- A short summary of the circumstances, key dates and your questions for the consultation.
- Fees
- Fees for family law matters depend on the type of proceedings and the steps taken, under the Tariff of Attorneys’ Fees and Expenses. You pay for the consultation at the meeting. We clarify the amount and payment method at the outset, before giving legal advice. Further work is agreed separately; court fees and other procedural expenses are separate.
